Fix sideways photos permanently

A photo that looks right on your phone can appear sideways once it is uploaded, emailed or opened on a computer. Cameras often save the picture in one orientation and add a note telling software to turn it, and not every website or program reads that note. Rotating the image here writes the correct orientation into the pixels themselves, so it displays the right way up everywhere.

Quarter turns of 90, 180 and 270 degrees move pixels without recalculating them, so the rotated photo keeps the same detail as the original.

Rotate or flip, then finish the edit

Use the flip option when an image is mirrored, which happens with front-camera selfies and some scans where the text reads backwards. Rotating and flipping both run in your browser, so documents and personal photos are not uploaded anywhere.

Once the photo is upright, trim unwanted edges with Crop Image, set exact dimensions with Resize Image, or shrink the file for an upload form with Compress Image.

Common questions

Why do some photos appear sideways only on certain devices?

Phone cameras often store the picture one way and add an orientation flag telling software to turn it. Apps that ignore that flag show it sideways. Rotating here bakes the correct orientation into the file itself.

Does rotating lose quality?

Turning by 90, 180 or 270 degrees is a clean operation and the visible quality stays the same.

Can I straighten a photo by a few degrees?

This tool handles quarter turns and flips. For a small tilt, rotate to the nearest quarter turn here and then trim the edges with Crop Image.
